which belgian singer has the best accent?

Postby trance mouse » Fri Nov 28, 2008 3:53 am

Which belgian singer, in your opinion, has the best accent (while singing)?
That is, is the least accented?

My vote goes for Sylvie from Sylver, she puts a perfect South Californian accent (the traditional one, not the Valley girl) à la Gwen Stefani when she sings. Way awesome, dude :)

Jessy's accent is nice, but with a touch of Southern, she could be from anywhere between Austin (TX) and Cincinnati (OH) .

Linda's accent is fine, but a bit too British for my liking (she sounds MidAtlantic, like someone from Boston).

I don't care for Kate Ryan's accent, it sounds very foreign.

And the worst accent of all: Diana of Deedee.
Oh tell me why.....

There should not be any yankee accent in this kind of music at all.
Oxford English is the standard to keep.
Its understandable that US people cannot learn to speak perfect english but why should these singers learn to sound like some Hilly Billy Joe. It would only sound unintelligent.
My vote for Dee Dee. Her intro in the Hasselt Medley video is just great. :P
And her claim for "haandiclap" later even better.
That's an artist in my eyes.

Evi singing 9-5 in the Notenclub video is the most terrible I have heard but to all luck it was only an imitation of some US plastic boob butox face singer.

I like Jessy's southern-twang in her voice when she sings.

I also really like Evy's accent...I love the way she says the word "letter" in the song "Follow You" in the opening line. I always thought she sounded so cute when she said that.

overall as to who sounds the most American, I'd say Silvy, but I like when singers sing with their accents. It gives it flare.

Yea, I agree with nojazzplease. There should not be any sort of USA-like accents to this type of music and that is because we are talking about EUROPEAN singers here that were (I think) raise as English not being the FIRST learned language. Just like me when I was born in Puerto Rico and learned Spanish first and English later.

Jessy has a sort of "warm tonal curve" to her voice that no other singer has. As far as us pushing Jessy towards the Country/twang style of music.....Eh, I am not so sure. I don't think Jessy would be a GREAT Country singer. Her heart is in dance and we all know it.

If you want a really bad example of a Pop singer going Country then look to Jessica Simpson

I am warning you. It's really bad

I love Dee Dee's voice in "Forever."

Sylvie's got a great voice too but I find it a bit too "light" at times.

That shall be all for now.

I love Silvy's accent but I think that each person must has his or her own identity... Her voice sounds just perfect, and not light but sweet.
