This was taken from the Linda Mertens forum. (Thanks Belgo)

************

Just got the magazine and tried to translate as much as possible of what she said. I may have missed some things out, so if other Belgian fans want to add stuff please do. 8)

The story is pretty sad, but then again I already knew that she didn't just leave Lasgo to take care of her kids and even mentioned this here before.

Anyway, here's the translation :

She was sent to the US all the time during the success of 'Something'. However, her management refused to buy her a work permit and said that if there were any problems she just had to lie and tell them she was on holiday. She also didn't get any money for personal expenses whenever she was doing international gigs. She had to keep the receipts and if she was lucky they'd pay her back. To make a long story short, the international gigs cost her money !! To make matters worse, her management then accused her of ripping them off and putting their money in her pocket.

They also put her in the worst hotels you've ever seen. As long it was just her she could live with that, but once she got pregnant she had enough of staying in these awful places.

Her management also decided everything for her. The clothes she had to wear, the cut / colour of her hair, songs she had to sing, ... She couldn't decide anything herself and was just a puppet on a string.

The final straw was in July 2006 when Evi got sick during a trip in Mexico and had to cancel some shows. It was never her intention to leave Lasgo, untill her management sent a judicial executor to her house and started a legal case against her. They didn't believe she was really sick and accused her of making everything up just cause she didn't feel like performing.

The judge decided that Evi had to finish her contract with Lasgo. That contract only ran out last week and before that she wasn't allowed to release any more music or even do anything else in the entertainment business. She was also not allowed to give any interviews talking about her problems in Lasgo.

This made it easy for her management to start looking for another singer, as they could make up an excuse as to why Evi left and Evi couldn't even deny it.

Conclusion : Evi never wanted to leave Lasgo. She just wanted to have some more input and be paid for all the work she put in. To this day she doesn't know where all the money went from the years she was with Lasgo. It's definitely not in her bank account.

Future : She's now working on new music and will come out with a new single fairly soon. She'll also get her own show on the new TV channel GUNKtv, starting next November.

*****************

I knew it. I knew that it was more than the kids thing. That's really messed up about management. Now I am wondering if this may happen to Jelle too.

Please comment and discuss :D

wow that is sad. . . .amazing how just like ian van dahl another project that peter luts touched has gone down. i mean at first it was ian van dahl and the whole marsha scandal. c+e left and peter took over. now ian van dahl is defunct and we have the wonderful annagrace (he better not fuck this one up!!)

now we have lasgo and evi getting screwed over. now the new lasgo formation is in place. notice how this is how i seprate the top belgium groups. sylver and milk inc are sister groups, basically same people working together and they are best friends and collaborate. no drama. on the other scale we have ian van dahl and lasgo who are sister groups, they toured together, same producers. they have all the freaking drama. even when dee dee was in the picture she wouldve been tied to the lasgo/ivd group. nuthin but drama. at least we know who the successful teams in belgium are!!

i think its sad that evi was forced out. she was what made lasgo. i guess it sucks because i loved it when she had red hair and had it cut like the cover of far away. it seprated her from the rest of the belgium singers like silvy and kate ryan and deee dee. it made her unique and she looked gorgeous and more exotic that way. i admit sum of the clothes they had her wear were rediculous. poor evi, im glad she broke her silence. i hope jelle knows what shes getting into. i think everyone in belgium has been waiting to hear this sotry and i think theres gonna be shock and a big backlash. we shall see.

im glad shes moving forward and i wonder if shes gonna release music under her name or a project name. we know her solo debut didnt workl out well so hopefully she makes dance music still and it works out. she should hook up with regi, that would be a pairing like no other. he helped make jessy big with RAIN so he can put evi back on the charts and trump jelle and peter. show that she was the backbone of lasgo. i wonder if thats the reason secretly why dave mccullen left too, he hated that that was happening to evi, sumone should find out what he thinks of it all. . . .

That's my first thought ... what about the current situation , is Jelle better of ?
But she made a deal with sinuz recordings right not with the previous guys (i don't know how this hole record company , management issue works, if somebody is willing to or can explain...)?

That's makes me wondering about Peter Luts ... didn't he care about that situation (because he didn't go on tour) only about his money?
If so that will change my point of view of him.

Was changing from label/management not an option when Evy was still with Lasgo ?

That's what I'm saying. Why didn't Peter say anything to diffuse the situation?

With Jelle, I am not sure how things will go IF she even knows about what happened with Evi. Only time will tell.

This is my thing:

No matter who you are, what you sing or whatever, you have to get compensated PROPERLY and treated right by the record label and management. I can't see why Evi's record label could not give her a work permit to come to the US. That's bull****. It's not like she was a criminal or has a criminal record. It doesn't take THAT much for a work permit, specially as big as Lasgo was.

She got screwed by the record company/management and Peter, from what we know, did not say anything.

The thing that also hurts me (even though it's a different situation) is that Jessy cannot release a "best of.......
cd/dvd because of what happened with her and The Mackenzie.

I don't know. It's like the relationships between singer/producer/record label are breaking down. I don't like this at all

Not in her situation. I think that was not an option.

what happened between jessy and the mackenzie? never heard that story. seems like its the single belgium girls in a group, jessy vs kate ryan, jessy is not that big now and kate ryan has exploded. . . .i love these mash ups, sylver vs lasgo or milk inc vs ivd. well now its annagrace and i hope she makes it. wonder how shes doin with peter luts pulling the strings. she'd be affected to just as much as jelle i would think, same recording company now

This really gets on my nerves cos i always used to support them by buying their albums and their singles - i wanted to show them my support - to think that the money just went to those greedy asses.

To be honest i think the way Peter Luts brushed this all over with a cheap and tacky tv show must have really hurt Evi. For me i don't listen to Lasgo since that they got the new girl in, i don't like her voice, in fact i think she is crap. Evi had a really beautiful multi-layered voice that i really love and no matter what style she will make i will support her records. She needs to be like kate ryan - kate ryan is kate ryan and very independant she controls the producers and she works with who she wants to.

I always said the way they treated Marsha was poor. There is more to this tho, why couldn't they have kept Evi and just signed to a new company. I think Peter was in on this all along, and this explains a lot of things. Firstly Dave the other part of Lasgo didn't want any part of this new meaningless Lasgo and where that was a big silence and new singles since the new Far Away album. The old record label was A&S recordings, did they go under?

I feel for Evi. I hope she will find a decent producer to co produce an album. I wish Marsha would come back too.

peace,

panda.
Loving Lasgo + Ian Van Dahl - I can't wait to see them live.

From what I have heard was that The Mackenzie got upset when Jessy decided to go and do her own stuff. I am guessing that she was tired of not being to express herself more with her own material and thus, left.

Jessy wants to release a Best of...cd and dvd for the fans but she needed permission from The Mackenzie first. They refused. I have to ask around and see if there is any hope that a Jessy cd/dvd will be released.

Since I am like the biggest Jessy fan/groupie of this here bunch, I think that I can explain why Jessy is not as "big" as her counterparts:

When Jessy teamed up with Regi and Filip for "Rain" it was a big success. That album, as from what I heard in other forums, is better produced than Lasgo's first album. You team up with those 2 guys and chances are that they will score some big hits.

But after "Rain" she went off to.........somewhere and then met up with Mickey Modelle and did the whole UK thing and that did not do her any good.

Then "Getting Out" came out and she was in the spotlight again because of none other than Linda from Milk Inc. was on the song. I am not saying that it was all about Linda but it did help the single a bit. Then, "Stop The Game" which was not received too well from what I heard but then after that, a Dance song "Please Forgive Me."

Her album should be out this month so please be on the lookout.

If you asked me flat out what went wrong withy Jessy, I have to say it was when she left Regi and Filip. Reasons for this? I am not sure.

Jessy herself has not done too many interviews about her career so there is information that is missing from what I have said and what the fans know but..........

she should have stuck with Regi and Filip. If she did THAT, there may never have been this Mickey Modelle rubbish.

If you get great results with a certain producer, stick with them for as long as possible.......that's what I would do.

Again, I am going to start asking my sources questions about Jessy. I shall report back;)

I'm so happy to know that we haven't heard the last of Evi!

Screw her management, she'll be just as great if not better on her own!
